Bay & Bay Transfer Company History

The Early Days

Bay & Bay Transfer Company, Inc. was established in 1941 by two brothers from the Morse family. They named the company after its first “engines” – two, loyal Bay Mare horses.  In the beginning, the Morse brothers hauled many things, from heavy equipment to raw materials.

Over the years, the company expanded to include many niche hauling services.  By 1960, the company was transporting grain, wood, cement, sand and other natural, dry bulk commodities.  The company also began hauling heavy equipment such as large plastic injection molding machines, and specialized equipment like magnetic resonance imaging units for hospitals.

New Owners Arrive

In 1983, Bay & Bay Transfer began having its equipment maintained and repaired by Anderson Diesel Truck Service, Inc.  The owners, Dave and Lois Anderson, ran their company based on two core values:  the needs of diesel repair customers always came first, and employees and contractors should feel at home.  After all, the Andersons knew that if their customers and employees were successful, the company would be successful, too.  In 1988, Dave and Lois Anderson purchased Bay & Bay Transfer Company, Inc.

Aggressive Expansion

1990: Bay & Bay enters the pad wrap dry van freight business.

1996: Bay & Bay companies hit the $5 million mark in business.

1997: Sam Anderson, the oldest and only son of Dave and Lois, rejoins Bay & Bay Transfer after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

1998: Bay & Bay breaks ground on a new freight terminal in Rosemount, MN. The facility will have ample parking for large equipment, a full-service shop, office space, and a transfer warehouse terminal.

1999: Bay & Bay opens its new Rosemount facility, which provides a launching pad to expand the TL freight operation.

2000: Bay & Bay pursues growth in an emerging category of rolling stock TL dry van services by doing business with Polaris Industries – and adding owner operators in the freight division.

2001: Bay & Bay increases its focus on specialized TL services by partnering with major retailers on their new store openings.  The need for specialized pad wrap and logistics coordination grows.

2002: Bay & Bay gains momentum in its logistics and brokerage division by offering specialized services for remodeling and expedited services.

2003: Bay & Bay begins providing labor for loading/unloading at new construction sites and remodeling projects for the company’s core customers.

2004: Bay & Bay owners, Dave and Lois Anderson, win the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Securing Long-Term Success

2005: Bay & Bay expands its regional dry freight division.  The company aims to open five satellite offices over the next five years to meet the demand for OTR and regional drivers.

2005:  Sam Anderson is promoted to president of Bay and Bay.  Founders Dave and Lois Anderson remain jointly as CEO and chairperson.

2006: Bay & Bay opens its first satellite office in Neenah, WI, to serve the greater Fox Valley and Milwaukee markets.

2007: Bay & Bay purchases D&T Trucking Company, a St. Paul-based refrigerated TL carrier.  The acquisition broadens the services available to customers of both companies.
