Bay and Bay Delivers Polaris Donation to Disaster Relief in Oklahoma

Polaris Donating 10 Off-Road Vehicles to The Salvation Army for Oklahoma Disaster Relief
Business Wire – Tuesday, May 28, 2013

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Polaris Industries Inc. (PII) today announced the company is donating 10 military, off-road vehicles with a combination of Run-Flat and Non-Pneumatic Tires (NPT), to enhance The Salvation Army’s ability to transport food, water and other critical supplies to survivors, in Moore, Okla. The units will be delivered from Polaris’ Osceola, Wis. plant, free of charge, thanks to a generous donation from Bay and Bay Transportation and Overbye Transport.

“With debris on the ground from thousands of destroyed homes, these vehicles will allow us to serve in places our mobile kitchens cannot,” said Lt. Col. Robert Thomson, Salvation Army Northern Division Commander. “We thank Polaris for this incredible gift. These vehicles will allow us to serve more people in crisis.”

The donated units, a combination of military ATV, RANGER and RZR vehicles, are outfitted with either Run Flat tires or NPTs to prevent down time. Run-Flat tires resist the effects of deflation when punctured giving the operator the ability to continue to use the vehicle; and NPTs are built to never go flat and are virtually indestructible.

“Oklahoma will rebound from this terrible tragedy, through the resiliency of its people and the assistance of organizations like The Salvation Army,” said Scott Wine, Polaris’ Chief Executive Officer. “Polaris has long supported their charitable efforts, and we hope the donation of these vehicles will assist them as they provide the affected communities with the relief they desperately need.”

To date, The Salvation Army has served more than 17,000 meals and snacks to tornado survivors and relief workers across Oklahoma, with pastoral care provided to about 800 people. The Salvation Army is now preparing to offer long-term case management, which can include financial assistance, stress management classes, replacement furniture and much more.

To donate to The Salvation Army’s Oklahoma tornado relief efforts:

  • Give online at SalvationArmyNorth.org or call 800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769)
  • Text “STORM” to 80888 to make a $10 donation via your mobile phone. To confirm your gift, respond “Yes.”
  • Mail a check to The Salvation Army, 2445 Prior Ave. N., Roseville, MN 55113. Designate your gift “Oklahoma Tornado.”

Bay & Bay Employees on the Road to Better Health

According to a December 2007 report from the American Dietetic Association, 86 percent of trucking company employees are overweight or obese. This study included over-the-road truck drivers as well as office staff.

Let that sink in for a second. In our industry, 9 out of 10 people are overweight or obese.

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) decided to do something about it. In partnership with the Lindora Clinic, the TCA started the TCA Weight Loss Showdown. Teams from trucking companies around the U.S. not only compete for bragging rights, but they also compete for prizes. Prizes are awarded to competing companies as well as individual prizes of up to $2500 for the winner. But everyone wins when they get healthier. The challenge lasts 10 weeks.

Bay & Bay was thrilled to be chosen for the 3rd installment of the competition and will be competing against five other teams from other trucking companies around the U.S. Bay & Bay’s team is made up of people from all four offices:

Rosemount:

Dave Beise – Driver
Ron Rodriquez – Driver
Warren Mundy – Driver
Sonia Copeland – Office

Burnsville:

Steve Holmberg – Driver
Jesse McGowan – Office

Eagan:

Mark Horvath – Office
Julia Kaplan – Office

Lake Elmo:

Albert Ware – Driver
David Galer – Driver
Debbie Larson – Office
Todd Outcelt – Office

The Showdown kicks off the week of June 1st. You can track our team’s progress and standings against the other teams by visiting and “LIKE”-ing Bay & Bay’s Facebook page.

We are in it to win it. Don’t hesitate to encourage and congratulate the team members when you see them. It won’t be long before you start to notice their transformations right before your eyes.

Memorial Day

As we approach Memorial Day Weekend, please remember what it’s all about. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of nice weather (finally), fishing, golf and family activities. However, it’s also supposed to be a time that we remember those who have died in our nations service.

For those of you who have served, know someone who has served or who have lost someone who has served – THANK YOU! We owe you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

Hope everyone has a safe weekend!

Bay and Bay Named Cabela’s 2012 Carrier of the Year!

Cabela’s, the world’s largest mail-order, internet and retail outdoor equipment outfitter, recently presented Bay & Bay Transportation with the “2012 Carrier of the Year” award. Cabela’s contracts many trucking companies each year to provide the backbone for its mail-order and internet sales divisions as well as the lifeline for their retail supply chain distribution.

“Being named top carrier in such a competitive environment is quite an honor,” says Sam Anderson, President and CEO of Bay & Bay Transportation. “Our employees work hard to provide all of our customers with consistent, reliable services. To be recognized by a great company like Cabela’s for the values we already hold as a company is a nice reward.”

Bay & Bay has been in partnership with Cabela’s since 2008, managing DC to store, store to DC, vendor IB and DC to DC moves. “It’s been a great partnership so far. We’re looking forward to seeing what our future together brings,” says Anderson.

DO GOOD. GO FISHING.

Recently, Bay & Bay Trucking announced it is holding a raffle to raise money for MN Adult & Teen Challenge. Employees can purchase tickets for chances to win fishing gear and other great prizes.

For over 30 years, MN Adult & Teen Challenge (MNATC) has been restoring hope to teens and adults struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Along with their effective and affordable short-term programs known as Life Renewal, and their distinctive long-term, faith-based recovery program, they also specialize in prevention and transitional/aftercare services.

All these programs allow them to serve people with a broad spectrum of addiction issues.

MN Adult & Teen Challenge truly helps clients gain hope, healing and freedom in their lives.

Last year, Bay & Bay employees raised over $8000 by bidding against each other in a fishing gear auction for MNATC. This year, we have changed the program to be a raffle in the hopes of raising even more money for this worthy cause!

Beam Me Up!

I wonder if in 1941, when Bay & Bay Transportation started, drivers would get lost in their thoughts while diving and think stuff like this: “What if in the future we had the ability to beam things, invisibly, through midair, around the world, without any type of vehicle or person delivering them—things like our voices, music, photos, documents, and maybe even one day…ourselves. That’s right! As if by magic, we could send things from one place to another in the blink of an eye. Wouldn’t that be astounding? Who knows? Maybe one day…in the future.”

Good News: The Future Has Arrived!

Back then, no one could imagine what kind of technology the future would bring. Warp drive ahead to today—some of these futuristic technologies have found their way right here to Bay & Bay Transportation.

In-Cab Scanning is an example of a technology that is helping trucking companies manage important documents quickly and accurately. Our drivers now have the ability to scan and transmit documents right from the cab of their trucks. Important, time-sensitive paperwork and documents are recorded and sent to our office basically in real-time. Documents like:

  • Proof Of Delivery Documents
  • Trip Reports
  • Receipts
  • And Other Critical Customer Information

Feeling the Effects

For our drivers, the systems are convenient and simple to use. For our office staff, the integrated software is compatible with our back-end office systems making the work flow efficient and speedy. All of this ensures an expedited billing cycle as well as increased driver and customer satisfaction.

Other Benefits:

  • Proof of delivery happens within hours, instead of days
  • Costs, errors, and delays caused by manual entry reduced
  • Saves time and out-of-route trip reports
  • Saves money on truck stop scanning fees
  • Enhances driver experience and satisfaction
  • Increases back-office productivity and efficiency
  • Speeds up billing and payment cycles

Bay & Bay is excited about the possibilities this new technology provides. We are always looking for ways to refine and enhance the transportation process. We are driven to create a better work environment for our staff, which means better service for our customers.
