Amazon is all about getting goodies to you on-time, and two big recent announcements are sure to have an impact on trucking jobs in Madison and other parts of Wisconsin.
The online retail giant continues to ramp-up its ground delivery capabilities. Kenosha, Wisconsin is already home to a fulfillment center, and Amazon is now proposing to build several more centers in unspecified locations around the United States. To staff these new centers, they estimate they’ll be hiring between 40,000 to 50,000 workers to handle orders.
This is an on-time delivery challenge that only trucks can reliably handle over long-haul and local routes. For now, Amazon has only one location in Kenosha, and the company is guarded when it comes to where it will finally locate its new facilities.
Kenosha is also a player in another opportunity that could create jobs in the transportation industry in Wisconsin. The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, Foxconn, is announcing plans for a major facility in Kenosha. It could create 3,000 jobs initially and possibly employ around 10,000 more in the future.
