Atlanta, GA is the Nation’s Congestion Capitol & CDL Truck Drivers Shouldn’t Expect Relief Anytime Soon

Remember all those promises about fixing America’s roads, bridges and airports? They were a major feature of the Trump administration’s 2016 campaign, but they appear to be legislative roadkill for now. CDL truck drivers passing through Atlanta, GA, know they’re in for a high-level freight moving frustration factor.

In fact, Bay & Bay Transportation CDL truck drivers can confirm Atlanta is the nation’s number one bottleneck location for the third year in a row. The American Transportation Research Institute’s study agrees, and researchers determined that the intersection of Interstate’s I-285 and I-85 North in Atlanta is the worst.

But the bad news for the South’s crossroads city doesn’t stop there. Atlanta can boast two other I-285 intersections that fall within the nation’s top 20 and there are another four in metro Atlanta that fall within the top 100 most congested in the country.

Is there any relief on the way if the United States wants to build its way out of traffic tie-ups? Not if the Trump administration is to be taken at their word. The President is signaling that any action on infrastructure will probably have to wait until after the results of this month’s elections.

That has led to at least one equipment manufacturers association to publicly criticize the administration for not making the upgrading of public works a priority. It’s estimated that planned spending on infrastructure between now and 2025 will fall about $2 trillion short. The administration’s proposal earlier this year was derided for being too small and too short of details on a way to pay for it.

Meanwhile, there is a cost to the slowdowns that come with moving freight through Atlanta and the greater Southeast U.S.; plus, there are the logistical headaches created by unpredictable traffic.

Bay & Bay’s Operations and Logistics Specialists know a challenge when they see one and are working to assist both CDL truck drivers and our customers while dealing with Atlanta’s bottlenecks and other choked locations across the country.
